Burns Lake & District Community Foundation Society (BL&DCF) is a non-profit society and was registered in 2006. BL&DCF established a rural partnership with the Prince George Community Foundation (PGCF) at that time.
BL&DCF maintains two (2) investment funds, the Dick & Marilyn Nourse Legacy Fund and the Burns Lake & District Community Endowment Fund. Funds from the Dick & Marilyn Nourse estate were made available for the legacy fund investment; matching funds from the Burns Lake Community Forest and Northern Development Initative Trust were the initial funds invested in the community endowment fund. Since that time, several donations have been received from private donors into the community fund.
The stewardship of the funds is directed by the BL&DCF Board of Directors for the benefit of local sports and recreation, arts and culture organizations, health related activities, educational opportunities, local environmental projects, with an emphasis on projects that benefit the youth with the Lakes District. The investment funds are held in perpetuity and managed by the PGCF. The annual amount of interest earned in each of the two funds is available for granting.
BL&DCF offers grants to organizations that perform projects and services to enhance the quality of life for residents in the Lakes District. All applicants must be a registered Canadian charity or be sponsored by a registered Canadian charity or another qualified donee. Grants are not made to individuals or businesses.
The benefitting area of the BL&DCF is the Village of Burns Lake and Electoral Areas B (Burns Lake Rural) and E (Francois/Ootsa Lake Rural) of the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako in northern British Columbia.
